Ian in 2018
Ian was born in Chichester, on the south coast. Living by the sea he spent every available moment on the water. His father bought him his first sailing boat when he was just eight.
He sailed and raced regularly, winning many races and always increasing his knowledge and love of the sea.
In 1968, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant, and got married, he set off with his wife and baby daughter to sail across the Caribbean and all points west. – see “An Atlantic Odyssey”
Then in 1978 came his journey into the southern ocean on Great Britain II – see “Racing through the southern Ocean”
Whilst on the Round the World race, Ian filmed for the BBC programme Grandstand and subsequently made a film of his many experiences which he sold to United Artists. His film went out on general cinema release with the James Bond film Moonraker.
He also undertook a Nationwide speaking tour with Foyles Lecture Agency. Ian has continued to work, most recently with an IT company, until retiring in 2023. Then, after a most successful talk to the East India Club in London, he decided to re-start his speaking engagements.
